The mankind is now faced by a tough nut to crack, the ecological crisis, which is in urgent need of resolution. And the construction of ecological ethics and ecological civilization is an important instrument to solve such ecological crisis. To strengthen the research and education on ecological ethics will not only help promote people’s ethical attainment, but contribute to solving the ecological crisis and provide ethical support for construction of ecological civilization as well. As the future backbone of Chinese socialist economic construction, college students shall cultivate ecological environment protection consciousness and ecological ethics behavior, as they will be playing a profound demonstration role in China’s ecological environment protection and ecological civilization construction. This essay intends to use the ecological ethics of Carl Marx’s thought and Friedrich Engels’ thought to guide man & nature towards a harmonious and coexisting development and to address the ecological environment problems that may arise during mankind economic development with a view to providing theoretical basis for college students’ ecological ethics education. It also expounded the importance of providing ecological ethics education in colleges from the perspective of Marx’s and western ecological ethics thought, analyzed the problems existed during the ecological ethics education at colleges, and explored the ways and approaches to promoting ecological ethics education at colleges by drawing lessons from similar foreign experiences. In this essay, I first introduced Carl Marx’s thought on ecological ethics including its primary views, different factions and its values in todays’ world before demonstrating the necessity and significance of providing ecological ethics education in colleges. Next I explored and analyzed the problems(and causes) faced by ecological ethics education at colleges including those related to ideological & political education, curriculum provision, the practice education, and shortage of qualified teachers. In the end, I proposed corresponding approaches to all the problems identified previously based on the successful experiences acquired by foreign countries, the actual conditions prevailed at Chinese colleges and the characteristics of Chinese college students. Such approaches include national macroscopic guidance, tailored curriculum at colleges, reinforcing the construction of teachers’ team, innovative classes, and complete ecological ethics education evaluation system and so on.
