New Generation Of Migrant Workers And Social Harmony

Since the reform and opening up of China in 1978, the economic system in China has transformed from planned economy to market economy. In the short period of the thirty years, the reform and opening up has got a great result and has created huge social wealth. In the initial stage of the reform and opening up, the eastern coastal region firstly practiced market economy, which drove the development of economy. In the past ten years, the central committee of the communist party of China successively carried out the policies of west development and the rise of central china. Therefore, the central and western regions have developed rapidly and the people’s livelihood has also changed earthshakingly. However, since we always neglect the possible hidden dangers in the development process, many social problems appeared in our society. As the social hot group, the new generation of migrant workers has drawn attention from all social parts in terms of their living conditions. There are many kinds of problems in their life and work, such as lack of social security, poor working stability, difficulty of employment, low income and the difficulty for their children to go to school. These make them lack of confidence in their life in city, but meanwhile, they have developed a sentimental attachment to the city life. So they rely on their own efforts to make a living with difficulty. Then, to promote the new generation of migrant workers to incorporate into city life, it is particularly urgent to solve the problems in their life and work, which also has great significance to adjust the social structure and promote a harmonious and sound development of our society. This paper mainly does a research on the living conditions and predicaments of the new generation of migrant workers, analyzes the causes of these problems and makes some relevant suggestions. Through the analysis we find that the problem of the new generation of migrant workers is a social problem in the urbanization of China, which needs to be solved by the reform of urban-rural dualism, the improvement of the health care and the labor security system.
