As is well known, textbook forms are shown by texts and illustrations,which connect and complement for each other, establish an organic andunified textbook system. The illustrations of textbooks have large innovationin style with technological advancements, and they have been used more often.More and more attention has concentration on illustration both at home andabroad, from style, content, to action on teaching and learning, there had a lotof research and practices.Based on the previous research status analysis, this thesis adopt classifiedstatistical investigate the illustrations of the six volumes English textbooks(Beijing Ren’ai Education Institute published) according to differentclassification standard they have used. Meanwhile, questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview were used to investigate the teachers andstudents’ using status on illustrations. Moreover, combined to the basis appliedtheories of illustration, we analyzed the problems in using Ren’ai illustrations,with an aim to promote the illustration teaching and learning, and helpful todraw and revise the illustrations of Ren’ai textbooks.This thesis basically contains six parts:Chapter one: in this part, research background, research status andresearch significance were expounded.Chapter two: core concepts and basic applied theories of illustrationswere explained.Chapter three: we counted the illustration’s amounts, style anddistribution of the English textbooks (Beijing Ren’ai Education Institutepublished), moreover, statistical results were analyzed.Chapter four: by questionnaire survey, classroom observation andinterview, we investigated and analyzed the teachers and students’ generalview, the use circumstance and the factors that affect illustrations’ effects onRen’ai illustrations.Chapter five: we pointed out the problems during illustration teaching,and selected several particular illustrations for case analysis.Conclusions: included conclusions and problems worthy of studying in the future.(1) There are numerous, multiform and colorful illustrations in Ren’aitextbooks, and they easily attract students’ attention, stir up students’ interest,however, there also had too much decorative illustration and filler illustration,moreover, cartoon illustrations proportionate amount is too big.(2) Most of students are satisfied with the Ren’ai illustrations, and overhalf of students pay close attention to illustrations consciously, but, only withteachers’ intendance can they have good achievements for lack of relativelyknowledge of read illustration.(3) Most of the investigated teachers are dramatically like the Ren’aiillustrations, and they often use them during their teaching, meanwhile, theythink teacher are necessary to attend to illustration’s design.
