In order to be competitive in today’s fierce job market, college graduates not only need to have extensivetheoretical knowledge, but also should improve their practical abilities, especially professional practical abilities.Professional practical ability is one of the very important parts of undergraduate’s practical ability, which is evenmore important for undergraduates majored in physical education (P.E.). Recently, although our college physicaleducation has improved significantly, the cultivation of student’s practical abilities is far from perfect. Thecultivation of P.E. undergraduates with good professional practical abilities is becoming a new challenge forcollege P.E. educator. With P.E. undergraduate’s professional practical capacities as research subject, this thesisexplored the factors and essence of professional practical capacities, social needs by different methods,(forexample, literature reviews, questionnaires, expert interviews, mathematical statistics and Delphi method) in hopeof inspiring new methods and modes for future cultivation.1The research shows that professional practical abilities of P.E. undergraduates usually include generalcapacity and the profession practical capacity, that is to say, the specialty capacity and the on-site practicalcapacity: include the specialty application and innovation capacity, and capacities to take up the responsibilities ofphysical exercising, physical education, judging, sports training, events organization, and so on.2Professional practical abilities of P.E. undergraduates can’t meet real social needs, especially, presentationskills, the capacity of use location equipment, and the ability of events operation and sports injury treatment.3Problems in P.E. undergraduate education are indicate from two aspects: social needs and the status ofphysical education nowadays, which are credit systems, training objectives, educational systems, assessmentsystems, curriculum planning and training accesses. The university and teacher have no sufficient concern andattention to professional capacity training, and the access to professional capacities training too limited to meet theneeds.4In conclude, this thesis provides the following approaches accordingly to enhance practical abilities of P.E.undergraduates: build a shared values for cultivating professional practical abilities; optimize curriculum planning;establish “Bi-tutor” mechanism in the training accesses; complete probation and internship systems; adopt a strictevaluation institution. We can make sure of the fulfillment of training objectives.
