During the decade of the geography course reform, the most outstanding geography teachers have understood the course reforming concept deeply. The activity teaching of geography has melted into routine classes of high schools. On the one hand, the teachers of secondary schools hope to promote the teaching progress based on the implementation of the concept. However, they failed to grasp the essence of the concept in the process of the implementation. In the result, our geography activity classes set back to some extent, even, block the reform.This article is divided into four parts. It is a study based on the theory and practice of geography activity teaching. It can be used to provide certain reference basis for the practice, increase the effectiveness of the teaching and achieve the reform aim as soon as possible.The first is "the introduction". The introduction states the background of the study about geography teaching activities from two aspects of the course reform and its own practice. It summarized the origin and development of the activity teaching at home and abroad. Thus, it comes up with the significance of this topic and find out the researching objectives and methods.The second part is "the theory research about geography activity in middle school". It analyzes the necessity and the feasibility and expounds the connotation of the teaching, combining with the requirements of geography course standards in the teaching under the guidance of the education theory and the learning theory. It holds that the teaching needs to broaden the students’horizon, optimize the structure of the teaching in the classroom, relax the atmosphere between teachers and students and promote the function of the students’characters during their growth.The third part is "the practical research about geography activity in middle school". This part analyzes the advantages and disadvantages that exist in the activity teaching currently from the three cases. It has carried out the investigation and analysis about the present situation. During this process, it gets a lot of cooperation from the teachers. It analyzes and expounds the present situation on the basis of the survey data. Through analyzing the present situation, it is concluded the basic principles, the main pattern, the implement strategies and the evaluation system of its quality about the activity teaching. It points out that the teaching should comply with the students’physical and psychological development and meets the teaching requirements of teachers on the premise of the needs of the students. It puts forwards the four steps to carry out the teaching, that is, the activity design, organizing implement, thinking about the result and reflection.The fourth part is "the conclusion and the prospect". This part points out the existing problems in the study and the need to improve in the future.
