With the improvement of people’s living standards, the traditional medical staff-orienting medical mode could not meet the needs of patients and their families any longer. Often there are differences and even conflicts between doctors and patients for their different positions. Under this circumstance, medical social work appears in view of the public as one kinds of vocations. Being in its beginning stage, medical social work always meet with many difficulties during development. So the study on how the medical social work agencies overcome disadvantages and develop under the existing system has obvious significance for the development of China’s medical social work.This article takes the Medical Social Work Office of S hospital in Jinan as an example, and discusses the development pattern and strategy of Chinese medical social work organizations, by using the literature method, interview method and half participatory observation method to collect data. The resource dependence theory is introduced in the research process, and by comparison between resources it already has and demands for we could find a gap between them. Then analyzes the strategy the office resorting to under this background.The study finds that as a body that needs to rely heavily on external resources in order to survive, the pattern of resources of the medical social work office in S hospital has presented the following characteristics:The hospital occupies the fundamental position in the provision of resources, mainly in the guidance and control of the material resources, personnel, service object, service content and other aspects; volunteers are the potential participation bodies; the medical aid programs and funds are the important dependent resources. In order to stabilize the origin of the resources, and create a more stable environment for institutional development, the office tries to strengthen the resources transformation and mobilization capacity by building brand service, diversified cooperation, build legitimacy and other measures. Finally, this paper analyzes the deficiencies of current development of medical social work office exists.Through data analysis, we believe that the medical social work agency, which is strongly resources-depending, need to make full use of favorable conditions to develop itself, and to enhance control of resources. It must promote the specialization of medical social work, and constantly enrich and perfect the medical social work practice with the help of social funds and universities.
