Community is the main implement for the garbage classification processing projects. During the process of corresponding social work practice activities, professional social workers can make full use of their own advantage and provide strong support for the development of community environmental protection. With the help of professional social work services, the D community in Jinan city began to implement waste separation pilot from the summer of2012. This research conducted by the author in the internship experience collated from D community. The author not only carried on the investigation to the related groups by unstructured interviews, but reflected the operation strategy of professional social work intervention in this process. Specifically, this paper mainly includes the following contents:First of all, the author introduces research background, research questions, research significance and research methods, and selects "Community garbage classification" as the topic for a literature review. The author not only fully combs and reviews the existing research results in related fields, but introduces the analysis perspectives of this paper.Secondly, the author introduces the status of social work intervention in the D community’s garbage classification project. The author describes the goals of social work intervention in the project, and analyses the ideas of social work intervention as well as specific intervention strategies and measures at different stages of the development. In addition, the author also discusses various people in the level of environmental awareness and environmental protection activities as shown in the community project, and evaluates the effect of the intervention of social work.Thirdly, based on the qualitative data gained by the unstructured interview, the author defines the main problems arising in the course of social work intervention. The author found that in the project of garbage classification in D community, some practical design did not meet the actual needs of residents, the social workers lacked of concern on the internal differentiation of community residents. The project not only lacked of effective interaction between residents and authorities, but lacked of maintenance of community participation in the relevant supervision and management system, the organization mode of the community residents to participate in practice was also relatively single.Finally, the author puts forward the corresponding suggestions for the problems arising from the project of garbage classification in D community. This paper explores how professional social work methods and techniques can be fully utilized in the community environmental protection projects to provide the reference for the related areas. The author believes that social workers should not only carry out practices combined with the actual situation of the community, but also provide differentiated and targeted services for community residents participated in various layers. Social workers should also enhance communication between residents and management, establish and perfect the supporting system of supervision and management, and make their organization mode of participation diversifying.
