In the late1970s, in order to coordinate the relationship between economic and social development and population growth, China promoted the one-child policy. The implementation of this policy has increased about76,000families bereft of their only child each year, leaving those parents with hard-to-heal wounds, which has made them feeling inferior, and even caused autism and social isolation. Moreover, the supporting problem of those parents has also brought about big challenges to the society. Social work, as a professional practice, could effectively improve the parents’lack of support through therapy group, which help adjust their personal inferiority, and then change their living condition of autism.During October and December2013, with the help of a community in Changchun, I carried out a project called "walk hand-in-hand", which is a therapy group for eight mothers bereft of their only child in the community. This report is a summary for the project.Firstly, this report introduces the background and sources of the project from the perspective of the demand of the mothers bereft of their only child. Secondly, it predicts the project’s expected overall and specific goals. Thirdly it focuses on the executing processes, including the therapy group’s six phases of activities. At last, is assesses the project with three aspects:satisfaction of group members, self-evaluation of social workers, and accomplishment of team goals. Then it concluded that, this project has achieved its expected goals, eliminated the eight mothers’ shadow of life, given them living faith, and laid the groundwork for their active adaptation and integration into social life. Meanwhile, this project is creative three aspects:original subject, innovative content, and continuous follow up.
