The ability of inquiry is a survival and development ability which students mustpossess in modern times. Training high school students’ Chinese inquiry ability meetsthe requirement of the Chinese curriculum reform, and also the need of the developmentof the times. Because of their own development characteristics and outside influence ofteaching environment factors, the same pattern cannot be used in training rural students’and city students’ Chinese inquiry ability. Therefore, the study of rural high schoolstudents inquiry ability has its pertinence and practical significance. This article definesinquiry and the definition of inquiry ability and the theoretical basis of its training. Onthis basis, the paper analyses the current situation of Chinese inquiry ability of the citystudents and rural students in the form of questionnaire, the differences have been foundout through the comparison of rural senior high school students and the city high schoolstudents in the Chinese inquiry ability and the analysis of the reasons for this situation isthat teachers and students do not pay enough attention, one-sided emphasis on highscores, students lack of curiosity and the opportunities and methods of inquiry etc..Through the research, this paper proposes the principles and strategies of training ruralhigh school students’ Chinese inquiry ability. The training of rural high school students’language ability of inquiry must adhere to the subjective principle, practical principle,pertinence principle. Both teachers and students should change their concepts, studentsshould cherish the chance to explore, teachers should teach students the methods andStrategies of inquiry in a certain teaching situation.
