Knowledge-based economy has bring great opportunities and challenges to universities. Facing the context of innovation and entrepreneurialism, academic entrepreneurship activities are becoming more and more frequent. To integrate entrepreneurship into universities has become an important strategic development orientation for many research universities. However, corresponding assessment system still lags behind. Currently most of the main university assessment systems all share the problem of lack of entrepreneurship dimension, research-oriented and imperfect methodology while some rankings system has already showed their attention to entrepreneurial activities.This study reviews university entrepreneurship related theory, university ranking theory and university entrepreneurship capability related literature. An entrepreneurship capability evaluation model for research university is built based on survey, statistics analysis etc. In completing the model, some theoretical problems concerning parameter estimation represented by university ranking are corrected. And the model is tested by a sample of seven top research universities in China.The result shows that among all the university entrepreneurship activities, patent as a vital mean of technology transfer, lay the foundation for other activities and that school-run industry can hardly play the role of spin-offs. Based on these conclusions, the study provides some policy recommendation for university, higher education management agency and university evaluation practitioner. |
