For nearly three decades, with the policies of college enrollment and marketdemand of diverse talents, private colleges spring up and get rapid development.Private colleges are required to produce market economy, and also a powerful forcethat help elite education transform to mass education. Now they are becoming anindispensable education component. However, opportunities always come withchallenges. Private colleges are facing the challenges of reduced students and socialacceptance. How to seize the opportunities and overcome challenges are the keys tosurvive. Therefore, private colleges and universities must improve the quality ofteaching and increase educational output to get more social recognition. In thisprocess, the role of performance management is particular important. Throughscientific performance management, private colleges can effectively improve theperformance of staff and improve the quality of teaching. But now most privatecolleges and universities still use the performance management mode of publicuniversities, which is not suitable for private colleges and not conducive to thescientific development of private colleges. Therefore, explore the issues of how toimprove the performance management quality is essential.The balanced scorecard emerged in the1990s as a management tool, which isconstituted of four dimensions that are the financial dimension, customer dimension,internal process dimension, learning and growth dimension. The four dimensionsform a complete set of system that serve the strategic target. Compared to traditionalmethods of performance management, BSC pay more attention to balance.This article will use the balanced scorecard tool to explore a scientific method ofperformance management of private colleges, and use S college as an example toexplain how to use it in private college. Design specific indicators of fore dimensions,give appropriate weight to every indicator, calculate the score of each indicator, and atlast we can find the problems of S college and explore appropriate measures toimprove it. Finally, the article analyze the difficulties in using BSC of private colleges,and find reasonable solutions to enable BSC to be more widely and effectively used,which can effectively improve the performance management level of private collegesand universities.
