With the rapid development of Chinese economy, and the significantimprovement in the international status, Chinese hot is rapidly forming all over theworld. The number of Chinese Learners in China, foreign schools andteaching institutions are growing which means an unprecedented prosperity of ChineseInternational Education business. As more foreigners will come into contact withthe Chinese, Chinese teachers in primary and middle schools have more chance toaccess to foreign students, and the teachers who major in teaching Chinese as a foreignlanguage have been doubled every year. Our country is facing an important transitionperiod of Chinese as a foreign language to Chinese international education which needsfurther exploration and improvement. As far as China is concerned, the cause ofinternational Chinese language education, has been opened not only in universities, butalso penetrated into many primary schools that primary school Chinese teachers alsojoined the team of Chinese language teachers. Although primary school teachers haverich experience in teaching Chinese, they have little research on foreign languageteaching theory. Thus the practice is often separated from the theory, and the teachersoften confuse teaching elementary Chinese with the Chinese teaching in primaryschool. In order to solve this problem, this paper uses the comparative method todiscuss the similarities and differences of primary stage of Chinese teaching andChinese teaching in primary school from the five aspects of teaching nature, teachingobject, teaching objectives, curriculum and teaching principle so as to cultivatestudents’ communication ability in Chinese and help primary school students to set up aright outlook on life. By comparative analysis of both, the author find out the same and different points to make the primary school Chinese teachers understand that primaryChinese teaching and Chinese teaching in primary school respectively belong totwo different subjects in teaching, so that when the primary school Chineseteachers have the opportunity to engage in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, theycan quickly grasp the similarities and differences between the two kinds of teaching andcomplete the teaching task better.
