Education is the main method for women to obtain the liberation and individualdevelopment; but also an important criterion to measure the degree of social progress.This paper discusses women’s education development in Xinjiang during the Republicof China in five aspects. The budding period of Xinjiang women’s education was theend of Qing, and it laid the foundation for the future development; in YANG Zengxinand JIN Shuren’s government times, women’s education broke through difficultiesand achieved preliminary development, mainly on the establishment of public andprivate girls’ schools; in SHENG Shicai’s government times, with the influence ofprovincial government’s education policy, many ethnic Culture PromotionAssociations, and Xinjiang Women’s Associations, women’s education obtaineddevelopment greatly, such as the number of women receiving education increased andeducation varied in forms; when the Kuomintang ruled Xinjiang directly, thedevelopment of women’s education slowed down, and there were two differenteducation policy and forms in the “Seventh Area” and “Three Areas”;finally, thepaper introduces the every stage’s characteristics of Xinjiang women education duringthe Republic of China, and the significance of Xinjiang women’s education duringthat time.
