Mathematics is the base of a nation’s science technology. And it plays an important role in ourmathematics education. The economic strength of a country is closely related to mathematics education.Mathematics competition is one of the most significant part of mathematics education, which helps studentsimprove their ability of thinking. There are many kinds of Mathematics Competitions for secondary schoolstudents in America. The high school mathematics competitions are very popular in many countriesincluding America, and students have great interest in taking parting them. The Mathematics Competitionsfor secondary school students in our country develop fast and make a big difference. However, in ourcountry, on one hand some persons like mathematics competitions very much and praise them; on the otherhand some persons who think the mathematics competitions hold up students’ development of body andheart appeal for no math competitions. Chinese mathematics competitions are in a dilemma. In order tosolve this condition and find the reasons, the writer chooses some mathematics competitions for secondaryschool students in China and America respectively. These competitions are representative, which were holdby Chinese Mathematical Society or Mathematical Association of America. Through comparison andanalysis, the writer hope to find the places where we can learn from America.The thesis has four chapter in total. First chapter introduces the background, purpose and theresearch method. It contains the background of the problem, purpose and the research methods, whichdescribes the competition’s history and its current situation. The second chapter mainly uses the literaturemethod and interview method to describe some main Mathematics Competitions for secondary schoolstudents in China and in America respectively. The third chapter compares and analyses the MathematicsCompetitions for secondary school students between China and America. And concludes the advantagesand disadvantages of Mathematics Competitions for secondary school students in America and Chinarespectively. It uses tabular method, statistical method and illustrative method. The last chapter describesshortages of Chinese Mathematics Competitions for secondary school students and according to Americanhigh school mathematical competitions learns some experiences and lessons. And finally gets somesuggestions for the development of mathematics competitions in China. Suggest Mathematics Competitionsfor secondary school students in China to allow every student to take part in them. And suggest the teachers and students realize the purpose of Mathematics Competitions for secondary school students in right way,and don’t misunderstand the original intention that our country hold the Mathematics Competitions. OurMathematics Competitions for secondary school students can learn the exam questions, time, and testequipments of Mathematics Competitions for secondary school students in America. At the end of thesis,the author puts forward some shortcomings of the thesis.
