With the rapid economic development, in the climate of people’s increasing demand for urban ecological environment, the landscape architecture industry has become one of the fast growing sunrise industries in recent years. Facing the rapid development of landscaping undertakings as well as the opportunities and challenges of the new economic era, the landscape architecture industry needs a large number applied technical talents who are capable of engaging in first-line production, construction and maintenance of garden products. And the landscape architecture major in secondary vocational schools is just undertaking such a responsibility, endeavoring to cultivate high-quality technical talents, in which the training bases on and off the campus have enhanced the students’ hands-on opportunities, providing a broad space and playing a significant role for the skills training of students. As a landscape architecture teacher working at the first line, I know profoundly that there still exist some problems in the construction of training bases for landscape architecture major. With the accumulation of work experience and deepening of professional learning, I have gradually realized that to solve this situation, the solutions cannot only be found from the limited landscape architecture school base construction, nor can they be applied mechanically, rather, only by fully understanding the needs of society and considering its own characteristics can the key of base construction be truly grasped, thus avoiding short-sightedness and shallowness. Therefore, this study explores the planning requirements, functional division, etc. of teaching training bases for landscape architecture major in secondary vocational schools taking the construction of training base of landscape architecture major in Hangzhou Tourism Vocational School as an example, and analyzes the advantages of building training bases as well as the existing problems such as remote location, lack of management mechanism and student safety management risks from the perspective of the actual use of training bases. The paper also seeks an operational mode suitable for vocational education training bases mainly from the study of current construction situation analysis, planning and design of training bases and teaching practice of landscape architecture major in secondary vocational schools, providing a reference for construction of training bases for similar vocational schools.
