Nowadays, the teaching mode of engineering education is experiencing changes inChina. Project learning is one of the most important part in the reform. Even thoughmany universities have participated in project learning, but the study of ProjectLearning Results is hardly found, we didn’t know whether the project can meet ourexpectations when we design it. This study selected the Optical ElectromechanicalCognitive Internship courses as a case to research the results of the Project Learning,which is given by the class of Excellence engineering in the H University. The course isoffered for the freshman as the introductory lesson. In order to make it more suitable forstudents’ learning and development, the teacher launched a series of reform on the basisof traditional introductory course,including the training objectives, training mode,teaching methods and the assessment of engineering students study. To research theresults of this reform is one of the most important part of this paper.The study has establishing the analytical framework according to the model ofIEO (Input-Environment-Output) which was built by Prof. Astin in UCLA. Bystudying the "Environment" and "Output" to assessment the results of this projectlearning.Data and information collected from survey, observe the performance of thestudents in the course, collect students’ evaluation materials and interviews students asthe main source of research information to evaluate the"(learning) environment" part.The paper have define the Index which is used to evaluate the ability of the Engineeringstudents during the project by literature Study on Project learning, the standards of theEngineers developing abroad, the training mode of CDIO and the engineer certificationqualifications framework. On the reference of NSSE, I have developed a questionnaireto evaluate the "output" including the students’ changes between their abilities,behaviors attitudes and so on. The data and information collected has showed that theproject learning has achieved success and the students’ ability has heighten.By research on the results and problems of the Optical ElectromechanicalCognitive Internship courses, we can draw a conclusion that project Learning is effectively to Engineering Students, at the same time,this paper puts forward somereform suggestion to help the university carry out the project learning more effectively.
