Dong Guan City Witnessed Great changes in economy since the open-door andreform policy was conducted. More and more workers from different parts of Chinahave been attracted to make their living in this city. However, since the majority ofmigrant workers are not well educated, and they have to work overtime to earn theirliving that they cannot spare more time and care to the English study of their children,which leads to migrant children’s poor learning. On the other hand, Migrant childrenoften do not concentrate in class, not actively participate in classroom activities.English learning has become a major obstacle during migrant children’s school time.This dissertation tried to seek out the present situation, problem of migrant Children’sEnglish learning. The author of this dissertation is a primary school English teacher inDong Guan city. In the past year, she searched the literature and references in thelibrary, investigated the Immig5rant workers, the teachers in Dong guan Primaryschools. The questionnaire designed by the author is aim to seek two different factorsthat affect the English studies of Migrant children in Dong guan City. Therefore, onequestionnaire is for the parents. One is for the children. After analyzing the validquestionnaire from parents, we found that the education level of migrant workers, thefamily study atmosphere, the parent’s concern, and different ways in treating the scoreare all the key elements affect the migrants students’ English performance in school.As for the students, we found that different attitudes, English learning habits and thedegree of attention in English learning may also have different influence in theirEnglish studies.In the fourth chapter of the dissertation, the author summarized the present situation,problems of the migrant children in Dong Guan City. Insufficient guidance of theparents, overburden in finance, poor English level and bad learning habit are thepresent obstacles that the migrant children in Dong Guan City confronted. The authortries to seek out the hidden reasons of these problems from the perspective of family,children themselves, teachers and schools.In the end of the dissertation, the authors puts forwards some suitable and workablesolutions to the present situation and problems of the Migrant Children in Dong GuanCity Elementary School, hopping these dissertation might provide some usefulsuggestions to improve the children ‘s learning in English and arouse their interest inleaning.
