With the development of science and modern technology, the use of English and technology became an important factor of our society. Since our country has joined WTO, English is used as an indispensable communicative tool which has become more and more important in our daily life. The application and development of computer technology make multimedia network teaching widely used in schools. In China, lacking of the situation for second language acquisition makes the traditional teacher-centered teaching model fail to help students learn English well. Multimedia network teaching combines listening, speaking, reading and writing together, improving the availability of output, maximize students’ attention, cultivate interest in learning. The teaching of reading has occupied a prominent position among the four basic skills, and multimedia network reading teaching has drawn great attention. The research attempts to testify that the multimedia network reading teaching can improve students’ English reading proficiency in vocational school.The research questions in this experiment are: 1. Can multimedia network English reading teaching promote students’ learning interest? 2. Can multimedia network English reading teaching help students in learning autonomy? 3. Does multimedia network English reading teaching improve students’ English reading proficiency?The experiment is carried out in XX vocational school. Two classes of freshman are randomly chosen as subjects, one is Control Class(CC), and the other is Experimental Class(EC). EC is taught by multimedia network reading teaching, and CC by the traditional teaching. The time of the research is one term. In this study, both quantitative and qualitative methods are adopted. Two questionnaires are used to investigate students’ learning interest and autonomy before and after experiment. An interview is adopted to investigate students’ autonomy after the experiment. And also computer recording and monitoring are used to record student’s online learning time and their homework marks. Meanwhile, pre-test paper and post-test paper are used to investigate students’ reading proficiency before and after the experiment. After data collection, the results of the experiment are analyzed.The study finds that the multimedia network English reading teaching has great influence on vocational school English reading teaching. Compared with the traditional teaching method, it can improve students’ English reading proficiency, create suitable teaching and learning environment, and promote students’ learning interest. Also it can encourage the students to conduct learning autonomy and cater for their needs. Consequently, multimedia network English reading teaching in vocational school is feasible.
