With rich imagination and vivid plots. fairy tales have become one of the children’s favorite literary genre. Therefore, fairy tales teaching occupies an important position in elementary school’s native language reading. It plays an irreplaceable role in teaching, and exerts a subtle influence on children’s thinking and emotional development.However, in today’s fairy tales teaching of primary school, this genre has not played the proper role. Teaching materials and teaching styles in this field still have defects. Ongoing reforms of teaching practices and reforms are aiming to figure out better modes of fairy tales teaching, among which comparative education is a good way to broaden our horizon. By comparing the Chinese and Western teaching methods, we may identify the current problems and figure out solutions. Firstly, this paper forwards a definition of fairy tales, so as to overrate the significance of this genre in children’s growth. Then, this paper attempts to summarize the different approaches on dealing with fairy tales between China and America by analyzing some good teaching cases of American fairy tale teaching. Thirdly, this paper aims to analyze the reasons of variance on fairy tale teaching between China and American from the perspective of curriculum standards, recognize both the strengths and the limitations of China’s fairy tales teaching, as well as draw on international experiences, so as to propose some profitable improvements.
