With deepening of the reform and opening-up policy and continuous development of science and technology, people have higher and higher standards towards cultural quality. In order to meet with the general requirements of "deepen the comprehensive reform in education field " brought by the 18 th CPC National Congress, the whole nation embrace the curriculum reform actively. New curriculum reform places the transformation of students’ learning style in a very important place. It pays more attention to student-based participation, emphasizes on the teaching process of interaction and mutual help between teachers and students, and strongly encourages students to participate actively in the teaching process. How to make teaching more attractive, how to cultivate the students’ interest in learning, how to achieve physical fitness, increase knowledge, edify sentiment and shaping personality in a better and faster way, reform and innovation of teaching methods become an important research subject.Since everlasting, it has been our teaching style to over-value teachers, over-focus on the classroom teaching, and pay too much attention to the teacher’s leadership while ignore the students’ subject participation. As things going on, students are unable to experience initiative and subjectivity from learning, but kept in a passive state of acceptance, which all lead to low comprehensive quality- the most obvious shortage of our country’s education. Therefore, in order to cultivate high-quality talents to meet the need of the future development, the innovation of a new educational idea and style is especially important.Originated in the 50 s of the 20 th century, "participatory" teaching method pays more attention to student’s subject participation, constantly emphasizes their subject status during learning, and respect students’ personality, fully mobilize students’ subjective initiative and creativity in a rationally and scientifically way. The method contributes to create a relaxed, funny, democratic, and united classroom atmosphere.At the same time it also strengthened the communication and collaboration between students and teachers; much improved the students’ learning ability and practical ability. So students have had fun out of learning and applied in their practice in the whole teaching process.This kind of intuitive, interactive, and collaborative teaching method is a great overturn on the traditional "spoon-feeding" teaching model, which can cultivate more and better inter-disciplinary talents with innovation spirit for our country. This article systematically analyzes the actual effect of the participatory teaching method in university public basketball sports from the aspects of the teaching effects.It discusses the significance and the advantages / disadvantages of participatory teaching method, combining theory with practice, and applies the method into basketball classes. And it adopts the literature material method, questionnaire survey method, mathematical statistics and other research methods, comparing the advantages and disadvantages between participatory teaching method and traditional teaching methods in many aspects.The study takes students from Class 1 and Class 2 separately, in Grade 2014 of Public Physical Education as experimental subject. 18 male and 22 female from Class 1 forms the experimental class and 20 male and 20 female from Class 2 forms the comparing class. By adopting questionnaire and test method of zero-different analysis, the article purses experimental research by applying participatory approach into public basketball sport lessons.In this thesis, we can gather massive effective and accurate data throughout the research on the experimental class and the comparing class.By analysis and comparison of mathematical statistics, it proofs that participatory teaching method has more advantages compared to traditional methods in the university public basketball sports class.Research conclusions and Suggestions are as follows:Conclusions: Participatory teaching method can increase students’ understanding in basketball effectively, stimulate their interest in basketball and encourage students to learn the basic skills of basketball actively; the method can improve students’ sport skills to master and practice more apparently, and also cultivate the students’ comprehensive ability; the method can help students develop good habits of extracurricular physical exercise more effectively thus improving the teaching quality. The method can enhance the students’ lifelong sports awareness, in order to form good physical exercise behavior, and improve the social adaptation ability.Suggestion:(1) Make full preparation before implementing participatory teaching plan. Teachers should play the leading role in making teaching plans, which students should participate in rather than do whatever they want to.(2) Participatory teaching should be implemented step by step. It should keep close to students’ behavior and physical & mental development, prevent them to waste time in class, enrich their activity life, increase enjoyment, and also avoid too much sports loading.(3)Teachers should encourage students to evaluate and give feedback actively on the learning method and effects in the process. They should ensure students acquire knowledge with enthusiasm and accuracy based on the corresponding improvement to their feedback.(4) Teachers should appreciate the students’ participation and enthusiasm before and during the participatory teaching process, encourage them constantly so that the students can actively participate in class. Teachers should also keep close to the students’ cooperative, creation and self-development.(5) Teachers must look out the disadvantages and absorb the essence when implementing the participatory teaching method, carrying out the teaching method in the continuous reform and innovation.
