Stressor, mental health and self-directed learning are important fields and focus in the research of education and learning psychology. With the developing of society and people’s living level, the pressures of life and competition are also increasing fast. More and more people began to focus on mental health. Junior middle school students are in the key period of physiological and mental development. They are immature, but want to be treated as adults. In this period, they suffer from a lot of mental conflicts and have many problems of behavior and emotionThere are two parts of the research. The characteristics and relationships among stressor, mental health and self directed learning of the junior middle school students were investigated in Research One, and the effect of group psychological guidance to improve the level of self-directed learning of junior middle school students were explored in Research Two. In Research One, The subjects include 599 junior middle school students. In Research Two, 60 students were picked up from Research One and divided into three groups.The conclusions were as follows: 1. there are gender differences in parenting style and social culture factors in rural junior middle school students, and boys feel more pressure than girls; 2. there existed grade differences in the level of mental health in rural junior middle school students, and Grade Eight students are more prone to suffer mental health problems; 3. there are grade differences in effective learning and love learning factors in rural junior middle school students, and the learning efficiency of Grade 9students is higher, preference for learning of Grade 8 students is the minimum; 4. a correlation exists between the common stressors pressure factor and mental health level that can be used to explain the psychological anxiety of junior middle school students; 5.there exists different degree of correlation between dimensions of mental health and self directed learning readiness factors, and the self-directed learning quality of junior middle school students could be ameliorated by improving their mental health; 6. Group counseling can improve the self-directed learning quality of rural junior middle schoolstudents of different mental health levels.
