In recent years, with the gradually increasing of government support for higher vocational education, higher vocational education in China has entered a new stage of stable development, and gradually occupy a pivotal position in the whole higher education system. There are inextricably connections between higher vocational education and economic development, the two interacts and influences each other. Coordinating the relationship of higher vocational education and regional economic development is crucial, not only can ensure the sustainable and healthy development of higher vocational education, but also can ensure the effective role played two promote each other. Shandong Province is an economic and educational province, a coordinated relationship and properly resolving exposed problems in the development are important to promote the development of vocational education and economic of Shandong Province.The main line of this paper is to explore whether Shandong higher vocational education and regional economic development is coordinated or not, and to find out the way to promote the coordinated development. The introduction describes the background, significance of the topic, research ideas, research content and methods, and generalizes the related research at home and abroad. The second chapter defines the related concepts and theories of the study, laying the theoretical foundation for further research and analysis. The third chapter analyzes the situation and status of regional economic development in Shandong Province, but also analyzes the policy environment of higher vocational education, the employment situation of graduations, the number of vocational schools and professional settings. In addition, there is a descriptive analysis of the interaction between the regional economy and higher vocational education. Yantai Vocational College is an example to verify the relationship of the two. On the basis of research on the status quo, The fourth chapter chooses the appropriate indicators and building models to analyze the relevance and coordination higher vocational education and regional economy in Shandong Province. Analysis showed, compared with the average scale of the national higher vocational education, Shandong Province is in a state of uncoordinated development. Meanwhile, I also analyze the coordination of 17 cities in Shandong Province and make divisions. It is concluded that under highly coordinated development of cities in Shandong Province is relatively small, mostly are underdeveloped coordinated and uncoordinated cities. Faced with uncoordinated development status, combined with the actual situation in Shandong Province, the fifth chapter presents some specific and workable suggestions, including strengthening the government’s policy support, funding and broadening employment channels, strengthen the relationship between schools and enterprises and the construction of their own capabilities etc. Epilogue points out the innovation and deficiency of this paper.
