| A college entrance examination (CEE) is one of the most important tests in current society, a summative evaluation for high school students, as well as a basis on which talents are selected in every country. However, due to differences in national economic development and education levels, national college entrance examinations all have their different characteristics. After translating Geography papers for the2006-2012VCE (Victoria Certificate Examination) of Australia and reports on the assessment analysis, I’ve come to learn about its relevant curriculum, teaching and assessment context. I also compare and analyze the relevant aspects of Jiangsu CEE geography paper in order to find the obvious differences so that valuable experience can be referred to in the further reform of Jiangsu CEE and Geography classroom teaching.This paper reviews the basic concepts and innovative features of the new curriculum reform, educational measurement theory and basic requirements, focusing on comparing Jiangsu CEE Geography papers with those of the VCE (structure, content, form and integrated difficulty) as well as comparing the related comprehensive backgrounds of the two Geography tests, such as test systems of.the two countries, high school Geography curriculum system and the subject system, Geography exam notes, Geography classroom teaching and evaluation. After a comparative analysis, the main conclusions are as follows: VCE Geography papers advocating for students to express personal views on the basis of the analysis carried out, the ability to access and interpret the information beyond the chart, emphasizing that the map is an important way of geographical expression, directly in the test paper reflecting geographic field works and the exploration of the content and process, avoiding excessive pursuit of standardized answers. Therefore, integrity, inquiry, flexibility and openness of VCE test papers help to encourage students’ creativity, which is well worthy of being learned from by Jiangsu.In addition, a wide diversity of subjects for VCE, the combination of subjects with career needs, the transparency of assessment report, that the geography learning content and the layout being closely associated with local cases contributes to practical analysis and application, organized and standardized combination of the process evaluation and the summative evaluation, are all worth our reflection and reference. |
