Its diverse distinctive social basis, make education also reflects the multicultural values. And the curriculum reflects the high degree of democracy, practical, scientific, comprehensive and equity characteristics. New Zealand’s education system has been considered to be one of the world’s best education systems, which has a close relationship with the continuous reform and development of its basic education curriculum.After World War II, New Zealand continued commitment to reform of basic education curriculum, especially since the 1980 s, basic education curriculum reform has made remarkable achievements in education. This paper attempts to use literature and comparative research methods, by dividing stages to review and analyze the context and history of New Zealand’s basic education curriculum reform since the 1980 s, on this basis, to grasp the whole concept of contemporary New Zealand basic education curriculum reform, objectives, as well as to promote and security and other aspects of content, and reveal the characteristics and problems of basic education curriculum reform in New Zealand. Comprehensive analysis of its curriculum reform experiences and lessons, provide good inspiration for the reform and development of China’s basic education curriculum.This paper includes four parts, the first part of the introduction, including the origin of research, domestic and foreign research review, and research purpose, significance and method. The second part mainly introduces the background and course of several decades of basic education curriculum reform in New Zealand for the 1980 s to 2006, and to tell the themes and features of curriculum reform in three stages, which pave the way for the contemporary content of elementary education curriculum reform in New Zealand. The third part mainly introduces the concept, content and features of contemporary New Zealand system of basic education curriculum reform, and whole this part tries to present the guiding ideology, the content of curriculum system, security system and other aspects of contemporary basic education course in New Zealand, and it’s the paper’s main body and foundation.
