Novel classics, which contain their writers’ reflections on themselves and their society and times, are the most brilliant part of the human spirit and casting unique artistic spell in the history of literature. New Curriculum standards require that students "Learn to appreciate literature, picture images, taste the language and understand the rich content of the work, and that students experience its artistic expression, have their own emotional experience and thinking, be infected and enlightened, make efforts to explore national psychology and the spirit of the times contained in the works, so as to enrich the understanding of human social life and emotional world".Fiction reading has evolved more and more important. However, there are many problems to teach novel reading in the Affiliated High School to Inner Mongolian Science and technology University such as lacking interest in learning, no usage of reading strategies, simpleness and obsolescence of teaching mode, etc.From the actual situation in the Affiliated High School to Inner Mongolian Science and technology University, and based on the five books of required courses in the PEP high school Literature, questionnaires and interviews and other forms of student and teacher data collection were used in the thesis to find a lot of novel reading problems in the school. In the section of introduction, characteristics of the schooling, teachers and students in the Affiliated High School to Inner Mongolian Science and technology University are mainly outlined. Then the problem is presented and the bibliography is reviewed, in which the participation in domestic and overseas papers and monographs is described, whereas the starting point and the content of the research are presented in this paper. The body part consists of three parts, among which the first part presents the existing problems in the high school teaching of novel reading in the Affiliated High School, discussed from the aspects of the lack of interest in reading fiction from the students, the smaller number of students’ extracurricular novel reading, no practical methods of independent reading, shallowness in novel reading, teachers’ insufficient attention to the novels, and teaching rigidity. In the second part, the reasons why the problems of teaching novel reading in the Affiliated High School has aroused are analyzed, including entertaining tendency of students’ interest in reading a novel, pressure on both teachers’ teaching and students’ academics, students’ focus on the plot rather than reading methods, the students’ weak "consciousness of questions" while reading novels, teachers’ lacking attention to further professional study and their preference to the traditional teaching mode. The third part discusses the solutions to problems of the novel reading teaching in the Affiliated High School, proposing measures to solve the problems from arousing students’ interest, clever increasing the amount of reading, teaching practical reading methods, finding entry points for reading to "accelerate" the further understanding of the works and enhancing teachers’ literary and teaching ability.
