With the development of the reform and opening policy, China’s socialist market economy structure continues to improve, while both social values and the development of enterprises and public institutions have diversified recently, which require higher overall quality of job hunters. Meanwhile, higher education is developing rapidly, the number of postgraduate students is surging, but jobs are relatively insufficient in some areas. All these situations lead to great pressures in students’ job hunting. Facing great employment pressures and diversified values, postgraduates’ professional values diversify as well, and some have even changed to varying degrees. This paper carries out research on the current conditions of social employment, postgraduate students and their professional values, aiming at preventing the negative tendencies of postgraduates’ professional values and guiding the students to right professional values through analyzing the present situation of social employment objectively and articulating postgraduates’ professional values shown in choosing a career.This paper is divided into three parts:The first part illustrates the theories related to postgraduates’ professional values including the definition of values, professional values and professional values of postgraduates, introduces the situation of postgraduates’ professional values which includes value orientations, goals and assessments, and describes the position and function of professional value in postgraduates’ job hunting from three aspects: inflecting professional value judgment, promoting professional choice diversity, and ensuring right career choices. The second part studies the problems exist in postgraduates’ professional values and probe into the reasons. Reasons for postgraduates’ professional value changes are examined from both macro perspective and micro perspectives of colleges and individuals according to the problems found such as vague targets, inflated self expectations and overemphasizing individual interests in job hunting. And the third part, the key of the paper, discusses the strategies for dealing with postgraduates’ professional values in detail. In this part, reasonable proposals will be advanced corresponding to the problems shown from the aspects of the country, colleges and the students.
