Chinese prose has a long history, profound implication, and the modern and contemporary prose beginning with the May Fourth New Culture Movement absorbs nutrition from the ancient prose, absorbs and learns from foreign cultures, getting colorful development. The modern and contemporary prose has always been the indispensable important component in high school language teaching materials, its language is fresh bright, or natural rustic, or concise grace, conveying the love of nature, the experience of society as well as the feeling of life sincerely, plays an important role in improving students’humane quality and cultivating students’aesthetic temperament and interest. Therefore. The modern and contemporary prose teaching has an irreplaceable position and role in language teaching. This paper, under the guidance of new curriculum concept, based on the modern and contemporary prose teaching itself, focuseson discussing the problem of how to teach modern and contemporary prose.This paper consists of two parts, namely introduction and the main dody. The introduction discusses the raise of the problem, research significance of the issues, research method and research summary. The main body is divided into five parts. In part one, the paper expounds the concept of prose and Modern and contemporary Prose, summarizes and generalizes the basic features of prose. In part two, the paper combs the development of modern and contemporary prose theory, and emphatically discusses the prose concept of "loose form but united ghost", "poetic prose", "truth and fiction" and its influence on middle school language teaching. In part three, taking high school language teaching material published by People’s education publishing house and Jiangsu education publishing house for example, the paper analyzes the selection situation and character of the modern and contemporary prose in teaching material, explores the important position of contemporary prose in high school language teaching and the significance of learning the modern and contemporary prose for high school students.In part four, the paper this paper investigates the current situation of modern and contemporary prose teaching from the two aspects of teachers’teaching and students’learning. In part five, which is the focus of this article, the paper proposes the general strategy of "reading" "tasting" "enlightenment" "thinking" for contemporary prose teaching, taking high school language teaching material published by people’s education publishing house for example and with specific teaching cases, the paper proposes teaching points respectively for lyrical prose, narrative prose and argument prose. Modern and contemporary prose teaching strategies presented in this paper attempts to provide a theoretical guidance for modern and contemporary prose teaching, consequently improving teaching efficiency.
