In the 21st century, the rapid development of information technology has accelerated the speed of basic education reform. As a visual educational narrative method which is popular at abroad in recent years, Digital Storytelling embodies the application of modern multimedia technology in mathematics. Based on the domestic and foreign literature on digital story, this paper presented the application of digital storytelling in classroom teaching of elementary mathematics and analyzed the application effect by literature research, interviews, classroom observation, comparative analysis and other methods. Interviews and classroom observation were used to understand the application status and to analyze the problems in classroom teaching of elementary mathematics. According to the problems and the analysis of program objective, content, teaching environment and students as well as the features of digital storytelling, the paper designed the classroom teaching of elementary mathematics, in which digital storytelling is used to create situations, introduce mathematical term, review and consolidate knowledge points in teaching practice. After teaching practice, the application effect of digital storytelling was evaluated by g student achievement on the application.The studies have shown that the application of digital stories in classroom teaching of elementary mathematics had a significant effect on increasing learning interest, improving students’ learning attitude and deepening students’ understanding of mathematical abstractions. In practice, teachers and students have expressed their recognition of the teaching methods. The paper discussed the applications of digital storytelling in classroom teaching of elementary mathematics, which provides a reference for the elementary school mathematics teachers when they teach mathematics by digital storytelling. Meanwhile, the production of digital storytelling provides a new perspective for multimedia to assist teaching.
