Reading is a kind of visual and psychological activity of ideas obtaining and language learning through reading written language material and understanding the content within it. Extracurricular reading is the extension and complement of classroom learning. Good extracurricular reading can stimulate students’ positive thinking, promote reading mind, writing and reading, is conducive to the formation of good and healthy personality of students.Based on the former research about the current situation of extracurricular reading, random surveys were conducted among a total of310 students of primary school’s low, medium, senior grade from Dongmenwai Primary School, Hohhot with the method of questionnaire and interview. According to the survey, nearly half of students’ current situation of extracurricular reading in this school is not optimistic.Primary school students have bias towards extra-curricular reading.Because of the exam-oriented education, students have little reading time and small reading quantity. Interactive mechanism needs establishing in reading resources obtaining, reading habits cultivating, reading instructing and planning among school, family and students. The problem of low reading quality of some teachers and the whole teaching team is crying for a solution. Under the influence of new media, parents and children spend more time on electronic products such as television, smart phone and internet. Time spent on extracurricular reading is not enough.The whole family does not develop a habit of reading. Parent’s educating way is in need of improvement, and attitude towards children’s extracurricular reading is also needed to be shaped positively.This paper puts forward some relevant measures towards the problems of the reading of students of Dongmenwai Primary School. First of all, on the understanding of primary school extracurricular reading, a correct view of extracurricular reading needs setting. And the key point is to stimulate the elementary student’s extracurricular reading interest, at the same time also seek to arouse pupils’ inner reading demand and evaluate diversified reading, optimize the campus reading atmosphere, improvethe atmosphere of reading activities of Hohhot xincheng district. Second,reading guide for elementary school students is needed. Combining extracurricular reading guide methods with the practical work experience,the author illustrates from the aspects of teachers how to guide students to read correctly, how to guide the pupils to choose right extracurricular reading and mastering the method of reading with coordinated work of teachers and parents. Finally, corresponding countermeasures are put forward from the primary school students’ extracurricular reading environment to reading view that should be formed by the parent’s, and with the idea that parent-child reading is the direct embodiment of family reading environment. The author hopes these references and bases are good for the development and reform of education, good to elementary school students physical and mental healthy growth, to get into the habit of reading, to read the concept construction of students’ parents, to promote the consciousness of extracurricular reading of students and parents, to promote formation of the teachers team reading consciousness, to let extracurricular reading better service for students, to promote students’ extracurricular reading to a greater degree, to improve the students’ reading level and to motivate students’ all-round development. Let the students learn to read and learn to love reading, to get used to reading, to feel pleasure in reading, to acquire more knowledge in reading and to grow healthily in reading.
