PE teachers’ professional skills is a necessary prerequisite and an important part for the teachers who engaged in physical education teaching and be competent for school sports jobs. Understand the priority and different needs of PE teachers’ professional skills in different development stages can provide a basis for reference to promote the professional development of school physical education teachers. The research object of this study is the primary and secondary school physical education teachers, in order to discuss their demand of PE teachers’ professional skills in different development stages, the study investigated and analyzed the primary and secondary school physical education teachers’awareness and demand of the PE teachers’ professional skills in some areas of seven provinces in China through literature, investigation, mathematical statistics, comparative analysis and other methods.Finally reached the following conclusions:Firstly, different stages of physical education teachers pay more attention and also obtain sense of identification regarding four types of PE teachers’ professional skills.Secondly, physical education teachers in different development stages have some different opinions towards recognition and demand of PE teachers’ professional skills: Relatively speaking, they pay the greatest attention to the classroom teaching skills however the lowest attention to the basic skills.Thirdly, the physical education teachers at different stages of development have different needs of the physical education teachers’ professional skills and different views on elements constituted of demand for various types of PE teachers’ professional skills: high titles of physical education teachers pay more attention to the teachers’ development skills and extracurricular guidance skills than lower titles in various PE teachers’ professional skills, unrated phase PE teachers pay more attention to the teaching skills such as classroom implement elements, and the interpersonal and multimedia information using elements of basic skills than the senior phase PE teachers.Fourthly, physical education teachers in different schools at the same stage of development have different demands for PE teachers’ professional skills:The teachers in middle school attach importance to guiding skills compared with primary school, while the ones in primary school take mandarin and daily behavior elements of basic skills more seriously than middle school; The teachers in provincial key school emphasis the PE teachers’ professional skills more balanced, and underlined the basic skills than the other attributes schools.
