School of mentally retarded students carried out occupation education is an important way to help students with mental retardation develop individual character, improve the occupation skill, and obtain employment, which has an important effect on the individual and family of mentally retarded students and society. However, there is no uniform provisions of our occupation education for the course of mentally retarded students at present, which provides the opportunity for the schools to develop the course of occupation education act according to circumstances. Taking the course of western pastry in school Y as the research object, which developed mature relatively, using non-participant observation and semi-structured interview method to carry out the investigation, to collect relevant data of the development and implementation of the curriculum.After the analysis of the related articles of domestic and foreign about the mentally retarded students’occupation education, school-based curriculum development and the course of western pastry, the author found that, research on school-based curriculum development of mentally retarded students’ occupation education is very scarce, and the breadth and depth of that study should enhance. In this paper, the author used the methods of classroom observation and interview 8 respondents to collect data, and presented the current situation of the development and implementation of this curriculum about western pastry in the aspects of the necessity, condition, purpose, principle, process, content and structure, and curriculum evaluation, on the basis, the author summarized the experience of this curriculum development, and its achievements from four aspects, as the standardization of vocational education’s development, the teachers’ professional development, students’occupation building, the school-based curriculum based construction, and pointed out the deficiency from three aspects, as curriculum, teachers and external cooperation, at the same time, the author points out the reasons of its insufficient, as the lack of reference to the characteristics of students in curriculum development, the insufficiency support of teachers, external cooperation is lack and soFinally, the author puts forward the corresponding improvement opinions, for example, improving the quality of course, perfect curriculum evaluation; adhere to the student oriented, mining potential of students; strengthen teacher support, reasonable teachers; striving for parents’ cooperation, expand social cooperation.The author hope to provide inspiration and reference for other schools to develop or improve school-based curriculum of vocational education for mentally retarded students.
