In the background of the digital age, various forms of media reading materials and electronic reading materials emerge in the environment of network. So reading medium is not the onefold traditional paper-based text reading.Of course, the way of reading is also changed. There are various forms of reading methods appear with the traditional paper-based text reading, such as electronic reading, network reading, and intelligent mobile phone reading.accordingly, in terms of people’s way of reading, A fundamental change takes place. College students are a special group, who can accept new things quickly. Their way of reading is also changed. which presents a tendency to fragmentation. How does a new way of reading —digital reading affect the college students’ cognitive development ? How to promote college students’ cognitive development,which is necessary to master the reading way and feature of digital age and understand the trait of the college students’ cognitive development to search for the main factors of digital reading effect on the college students’ cognitive development.In view of this, this article will make a study about the influences on College Students’ cognitive development.First of all, this paper uses the literature research method to summarize related concepts, for instance,reading, reading medium and digital reading. In order to clarify the purpose and meaning of this study, it also analyses relevant theories, such as the theory of reading, theory of cognition and brain science theory.Secondly, this paper adopts the method of interview and questionnaire to examine the effect of digital reading on college students’ cognitive development.According to the interview, the main factors which affect the college students’ cognitive development are the content of digital reading, the devices of digital reading and the environment of digital reading. Therefore, to ensure the hypothesis of the questionnaire and then begin to designs initial questionnaire,according to the design principal ofquestionnaire.The form of questionnaire is the Li Ke scale. The respondents are college students. The survey method is sampling survey. Based on the analysis of the reliability, validity and exploratory factor of the initial questionnaire’ questions,in order to establish the final questionnaire and begin to study.Thirdly, by using SPSS software carry on the statistics and exerting the hypothetical analysis of verification results and statistical analysis of description of every question. the final survey result of digital reading is that it has an effect on College Students’ cognitive development. There are both positive effects and negative effects. According to the questionnaire listed items, the minimum average of the positive items is 0.45; the minimum average of the negative item is 0.51. So we get the result that the digital reading on College Students’ cognitive development can’t be ignored.Finally, according to the survey, to analyze the influence mainly from the digital reading content,digital reading devices and digital reading environment three main factors combining with the features of College Students’ cognitive development. This paper presents the optimization of digital reading content,strengthened the function of digital reading devices and enhanced digital reading environment’s construction and other countermeasures to promote college students’ cognitive development better.
