Teaching materials is the necessary fundamental in the process of teaching and learningwith the available teaching materials, teachers can do the teaching and learning process well,students can comprehend the teaching material and understand what to study. The question ishow to decide on whether the teaching materials we used have been qualified enough? First,we have to be clear that teaching materials in the process of teaching and learning is one ofthe important parts, and we have to admit that there are no teaching materials can admitthemselves as “the best teaching materials.” During the selection of teaching materials, wehave to focus on the need of students, such as what the students need to learn, what themesthose the students like better, the characteristic of the students and their learning process, etc.Children education, visual equipments, games, teachers’ attitude towards the studentsand activities are closely linked together. In writer’s opinion, teachers have to consider goodteaching methods if they want to improve the students’ ability to communicate in Mandarinlanguage. Learning through games makes students feel that learning is fun. The teachingresults will be better if the teaching is done in fun sessions. The children ability to memorizeis still limited, we have to let them listen and to talk Mandarin intensively. All the importantthemes are connected with the students and the environments around them, it is the result ofteaching according to the students’ interest and needs.Students’ motivation to follow activities has enormous impact on the memory and on theresults. Each student has different motivations on following activities, so the memory resultsare also not the same. Games have the potential influence to increase “the quality teaching”,because games have the suitable criteria for learning process.During the teaching of kindergarten students, the process of teaching and learning has tobe interesting, in order to make the students like and be interested to learn Chinese language.On designing teaching materials, we have to consider what themes are liked by students,which themes are very appealing to them. While designing vocabulary materials, whichvocabulary is suitable for the students to learn, according to their age, the materials must be useful to be used in the daily conversation. Teaching according to the sequence: easy todifficult, teaching the simple vocabulary to the complicated ones. Hopefully, students will notfeel that Chinese language is difficult to learn. We hope that students will be more interestedto learn Chinese language. The writer hope this teaching design will be helpful and solvesome teaching problems for the teachers of Chinese language at the kindergarten, especiallyfor the Chinese language teachers in Banjarmasin, Indonesia.
