In recent years, more and more international schools are founded in theworld. Chinese becomes popular in the subject selections in these schools, withthe development of foreign exchange and the thermal heating of Chinese. However, studies of teaching Chinese as a second language in internationalschools are not much. In2014, I had the honor to be a volunteer Chineseteacher to teach Chinese in The Kilmore International School in Australia forone year. Making full use of this opportunity and combined with my experience,I did a comprehensive research of teaching Chinese as a second language ininternational school by the use of questionnaires, interviews and other methodsto the research the textbooks, teachers, students as well as other aspects ofChinese Classroom. Based on the survey, I analysis the advantages anddisadvantages of their teaching, and ultimately make the author’s suggestion. Ihope that I can provide a reference for teaching Chinese as a second language. This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces thebackground of this study, the international school background, previous studies, the method and purpose of this paper. The second chapter describes theinternational Chinese teaching as a second language and the InternationalBaccalaureate Diploma Projects. Although IB programs have been in China forsome years, it has never been focused on teaching Chinese as a secondlanguage. I believe that it is necessary to introduce the InternationalBaccalaureate program, the Chinese education system in this program, itssecond language syllabus, teaching evaluation system and so on. The thirdchapter is the research with the model of Australian International SchoolChinese model of The Kilmore International School. After the introduction of the International Baccalaureate program and its Chinese teaching system, I setThe Kilmore International School as an example to study their textbooks, teachers, students, instructional design, teaching content, classroom and otheraspects. Chapter IV is for advice and inspiration section, based on the results ofthe analysis on the results of the research introduced in third chapter. The lastpart is the conclusion of the whole paper.Combined with the experience in school teaching, investigation andanalysis the situation of Chinese teaching in the Kilmore International School, Ihope this paper could introduce the circumstances of the international schooland could do something in teaching Chinese as a second language.
