Objective:To study the Internet use situation and Internet excessive use situation of college students in anuniversity. To research the relationship between Internet excessive use, personality traits and emotionregulation self-efficacy. To explore the influencing factors of Internet excessive use. Then propose usefulmeasures to reduce the ratio of Internet excessive use, to provide related theoretical basis to Prevent andintervene Internet excessive use.Methods: Adopt quantitative research and qualitative research method. Quantitative research uses thequestionnaire survey. Use stratified sampling method to select1541students.Qualitative research usespurposive sampling. Eighteen Internet excessive use students, class cadres and counselors participated in apersonal interview.Results:1. The survey showed:(1) Internet use status: Most college students online time were1~3hours every day. They use Internet forbrowsing website, accessing information, instant communication.(2) Internet excessive use status: The rate of college students’ Internet excessive use was19.92%. Age,performance ranking, online time are the influence factors of Internet excessive use. Boys excessiveutilization rate is1.678times over girls (P<0.05). Students who are not performance ranking after a thirdexcessive utilization rate is1.769times over the top one-third(P<0.05). Students’ online time more than5hours its excessive utilization rate is6.923times over less than1hour(P<0.05).(3)There were significant differences in warmth, stability, aggressiveness, perseverance, dare, suspicion,sophistication, apprehension, self-discipline, tension personality of traits(P<0.05). The scores of Internetexcessive use were significant positive correction with suspicion, anxiety and tension(P<0.05). Thescores of Internet excessive use were significant negative correction with stability, excitability,perseverance, dare and self-discipline(P<0.05). Apprehension, persistence, tension, bullying, stabilityof dimensions have influence on Internet excessive use.(4) Internet excessive use group of college students were lower than Internet normal use group inregulatory emotional self-efficacy total score and its three dimensions’ score(P<0.05). There was anegative correlation between Internet excessive use total score and each dimension and regulatoryemotional self-efficacy and its three dimensions.(There is no correlation between tolerance symptoms ofInternet addiction and perceived self-efficacy in expressing positive affect. P>0.05). Emotion regulationself-efficacy could predict Internet excessive use. Emotion regulation self-efficacy could predict Internetexcessive use.(5) The mediatory effect of emotion regulation self-efficacy between apprehension, perseverance, tension,stability and Internet excessive use.2. Interviews showed: Internet use show mainly for long time online, entertainment, negative effects on life.Bad personality traits and emotions have effects on Internet excessive use. Conclusion:College students of the university generally used the Internet, and mainly focused oncommunication, entertainment and so on. However, there was a certain percentage of students who were inthe excessive use of the network phenomenon. The university managers should pay more attention on boys,senior students as well as those who were not satisfied with professions they have learned, ranked latterand long time Internet using. Because these students had a relatively high proportion to be in Internetexcessive use. Internet excessive users had bad personality traits, poor confidence in the effectiveregulation of their own emotions, so that school can intervene from the personality improvement, emotionmanagement.
