School-based Curriculum Development(SBCD),which is guided by the country’s educationalaims and policies, aims to satisfy the students’ needs. It is carried out by the school membersautonomously according to the school’s nature, characteristics, conditions and various resources.It is a continuous and dynamic process. The study of School-based Curriculum Developmentplays an important part in replenishing the state curriculum, satisfying the students’ learningneeds and promoting the teachers’ professional development. Studying the students, the schoolcould develop or choose the curriculum that is proper. Many schools develop the curriculums oftheir own, among which there are many good ones. But the study about School-basedCurriculum Development of Secondary Art School is limited and the systematic theories anddeveloping mode haven’t been formed.The purposes of my research are to find out the factors that affect SBCD of Secondary ArtSchool, to discuss whether the teachers and the students are satisfied with this school basedcurriculum and to talk about how SBCD can promote teachers’ professional development. Thestudy can provide some practical experiences for the theory of SBCD and provide somereferences and inspiration for others schools. The study about SBCD of Secondary Art Schoolcontributes to the development of the students and the development of the teachers and it canhelp to form the school characteristics. There are many research methods used in this thesis,such as document research, case study, questionnaire survey and interviewing method, whichare all helpful to study the theory and practice of SBCD of Secondary Art School.The research process has been divided into three steps. The first step is to do a good literaturereview. By reading the related books and thesis in the library and on the CNKI(China NationalKnowledge Internet), I try to search for some materials for my thesis. The second step is tomake an investigation of the practice in my school. I first confirm the purposes and problems Iwant to solve. Next I choose the methods and the objects of the study. Then I make thequestionnaires and interviews. All the questions in questionnaires and the interviews are aboutthe purposes of my study. Finally I hand out the questionnaires, do the interview and keep arecord of them. The third step is to analyze the data got from the questionnaires and the interview and to make a conclusion of my study.By analyzing the data I got from the study, I come to some conclusions: Firstly, the studentsand the teachers accept the SBCD well. Secondly, there are many factors that influence theSBCD in secondary schools. Whether the school leaders support and help develop school-basedcurriculum is an essential factor. The students’ studying condition and needs decide thedirection and contents of SBCD. The students in secondary art school are very different in age,character and English study condition, so the teachers should layer the students when they areteaching. Only those curriculums that are suitable for the students and can improve the students’integrated studying skills are good ones. And the requirements of the entrance examinationshould be considered seriously. Thirdly, the English teachers’ professional level is also animportant factor in SBCD. If there are too many difficulties in SBCD, the teachers in secondaryart school can creatively implement and transform the national curriculum by adapting it. Soenhancing the teachers’ ability of integrating curriculum resources is an important element inteachers’ professional development.
