With the development of social productive forces, and the improvement of people’s material living standards, the phenomenon of an aging population is more and more serious, series of social problems that are arisen with population put forwards challenge to aging pension system of the whole society, medical conditions and social security. The mental state and physical state of the elderly interact on each other, which impacts on their quality of life. As the growth of the age, under the limit of current retirement system in our country, if the elderly retired, their social roles will be changed; urban core family produces and changes the original family structure so that a large number of "empty nesters" appear. City neighborhood is indifferent so that the elderly interpersonal communication becomes more and more weak, communication circle becomes smaller and smaller, the elderly produces mental illness affecting the health of the elderly in a lot of leisure time such as loneliness, low self-esteem, fear, depression and so on. Tai chi has a certain effect on the mental, physical and social adaptability of the elderly; Medically, It is considered that tai chi is an exercise prescription which can prevent and treat nervous system disorders and hypertension, Clinically, it has a good effect. My paper has sociological analysis of the elderly tai chi group in Lanzhou city, and does the research on Tai chi group members on social characteristics, health status, living situation, healthy aging. Therefore, combining sociological analysis, I draw conclusions as follow:First, Group members show the social characters, eg. a large gap between the number of men and women, tai chi exercise is influenced by occupation, the imbalance of age distribution and practitioners turnover; Second, the strength of social support to the elderly tai chi in Lanzhou city is a little weaker among group members; Third, It is weaker that the elderly Tai chi groups in Lanzhou city participates in the family sports, the problems of empty nesters need to be solved; Fourth, the elderly tai chi group in Lanzhou city is lack of "healthy aging"; Fifth, the elderly tai chi community has a good conditions to carry out, the pension model of Tai chi community needs to be further explored.
