English as Foreign Language Teaching (hereinafter referred to as “EFLT”) resources arean essential part in guaranteeing the smooth progress of English teaching, and cover a varietyof factors, such as textbooks, radios, videos, newspapers, journals and all the other learningmaterials and supporting facilities to the benefit of development of students’ comprehensivelanguage application ability. This thesis makes an empirical investigation on the EFLTresources related to senior high school English teaching in order to reveal the currentsituation and existing problems in distribution and application of EFLT resources in the hopeof providing some valuable references for foreign language teaching in China. Starting fromthe premise of promoting English Language Teaching and improving the distribution andapplication of EFLT resources in China radically, this present study has great practicalsignificance to the English language teaching and learning in senior high schools and willprovide certain valuable references for the theoretical development and empirical research ofEFLT resources and the innovation of research perspectives, etc.This study is concerned with three regions with different economic development levelsand education levels in Shandong Province: Jinan, Boxing and Qingzhou, and randomlyselects20English teachers and243students from High School Attached to Shandong NormalUniversity, Changqing No.1Middle School, Boxing No.1Middle School and Qingzhou No.1Middle School as the research participants. By adopting the investigation methods ofliterature analysis, interviews and questionnaires in combination with an analysis of currentlyused English textbooks as well as various materials, this study is intended to achieve thefollowing objectives:(1) to discover the current distribution situation of EFLT resources insenior high schools of different regions with different economic development levels;(2) tofind out English teachers’ as well as senior high school students’ application situations ofEFLT resources and figure out whether these resources could meet their demands;(3) toexplore students’ learning effectiveness in English and capture the correlation between EFLTresources and students’ learning effectiveness;(4) to investigate what measures localeducation departments have adopted to exploit and utilize the EFLT resources.Directing at these above objectives, this thesis is divided into six chapters: Chapter One deals with research background, research purpose and significance as well as layout of thethesis; Chapter Two reviews related researches on EFLT resources in China over the past5years to reveal current situation and existing problems in this field; Chapter Three gives adetailed introduction to the theoretical framework of EFLT resources and learningeffectiveness; Chapter Four introduces the research questions, research participants, researchinstruments as well as data collection and arrangement involved in this study; Chapter Fivedelivers an objective presentation and detailed analysis for the data collected from literatureanalysis, interviews and questionnaires; Chapter Six summarizes major findings andlimitations of this present study and puts forward some implications for exploitation andutilization of EFLT resources in senior high schools.By the aid of statistical software SPSS version21.0, this thesis conducts a deep analysisand discussion of the results obtained through the present study and acquires the followingmain findings:(1) English textbooks are complied in line with the spirit of CurriculumReform and can provide students with various interdisciplinary knowledge to broaden theirhorizons;(2) informational EFLT resources, as a booming kind of resources, can supplyabundant EFLT resources systematically to satisfy multiple demands of teachers as well asstudents;(3) cities with high level of economic development tend to attract teachers withadvanced degree: English teaches in Jinan are inclined to have higher education degree thanthose in Boxing and Qingzhou;(4) distributions of necessary hardware as well assupplementary materials in regions with different economic development levels are similar ingeneral;(5) a variety of teaching and research activities have been organized in differentregions according to their own situations and construction of network teaching resourcesplatforms has become the new trend in English teaching research which should be brought tothe forefront by local education departments;(6) both teachers and students have been awarethat other various kinds of resources should be utilized besides English textbooks;(7) Englishteachers tend to employ various informational EFLT resources in the preparation andorganization of their lessons, and the Internet resources closely related to textbooks andexaminations are much more popular among them;(8) multimedia computer-assistedinstruction technology has been widely used in senior high school English classroom teachingand all English teachers have mastered this technology to a certain degree;(9) senior high school students have utilized English songs, movies and reference books frequently, whileInternet resources, English TV programs, newspapers, journals and literary works have beenneglected by most students;(10) both English teachers and senior high school students arequite satisfied with teaching facilities, surroundings and EFLT resources provided by theirschools and they believe the resources have satisfied their demands in their English teachingand learning;(11) strong correlation does exist between EFLT resources and learningeffectiveness among senior high school students, which is to say that the students who tend toutilize more kinds of EFLT resources more frequently are inclined to get a better learningeffectiveness in the process of English learning.Nevertheless, since time is limited, investigations conducted in this study are restrictedin three regions in Shandong Province, which leads to certain limitations in data acquisitionand analysis, so that researches in this field need further exploration in the future.
