A Study On The Model And Assess Of Young College Teachers’ Teaching Competency

In recent years,driven by the upsurge research on competency at home and abroad,there are many scholars in our country begin to focus on the problem about the competency of teachers in colleges and gain many valuable achievements,but the study on the teachers’ teaching competency in colleges is relatively less. The main duty of teachers in colleges is teaching,so it is necessary to study their teaching competency. Young teachers have already become the main force of the teachers’ group in colleges,it is especially important to study their teaching competency.This study start with the construction of young college teachers’ teaching competency index system,and constructs questionnaire of college teachers’ teaching competency according to the index items, after several revising,I sent out the formal questionnaire to 63 colleges in 26 different provinces. According to the research,these are the main conclusions:(1)The overall performance of young teachers’ teaching competency in colleges is close to the better level of evaluation criteria;different young college teachers have different teaching competency,and exist weakness in different items in general. In knowledge and teaching capacity,the grades show great differences in teachers of different ages and different class periods per week. In knowledge,teaching capacity,occupation character and personal traits,teachers of different teaching years exists significant difference in grades. In teaching capacity and occupation character,the difference between men and women teachers is significant. In occupation character,the grades of teachers who have different degree was significantly different. In knowledge,teaching capacity,occupation character and personal traits,there is no significant difference between different colleges and different courses. In item index,young college teachers have a good knowledge of specialty knowledge,but their comprehensive knowledge needed to be improved;young teachers are good at teaching reflection and reform,but less involved in teaching research;teaching capacity and occupation belief are the weakness of young teachers’ teaching competency. As the teaching years grow,the level of teachers’ teaching competency will increase accordingly.(2)The factors which influence the improvement of young teachers’ teaching capacity are roughly the same. The five main factors which impact the teachers’ teaching competency are on-the-job training,teaching observing,the pressure of teaching and research task,professional guidance and self-study. The external factors which restraint the improvement of young teachers’ teaching level are the great pressure of research,the heavy teaching tasks,low economic benefits,bad learning atmosphere among students,and less attention from school. Different colleges have different external factors which affected them.The conclusion reflects the present basic situation of young teachers’ teaching capacity in colleges,which has great value of reference and enlightenment for college teacher selection,teachers’ training,the evaluation of teaching performance,and the improvement of young teachers’ teaching capacity.
