The purpose of this study is to construct the competency model of the youth teacher’s teaching competency in colleges, to construct the youth teacher’s teaching competency questionnaire and assess the teaching level of the youth teacher competency. Methods used in this study contains about behavioral event interview, transcript content analysis, psychometric techniques, and test. Qualitative and quantitative research are united in the study aimed to give a rigorous empirical research to the competency model. The purpose is to explore the composition of the teaching competency of outstanding young teachers in college, and give some suggestions to help young teachers in college to enhance their teaching ability. The youth teachers’ teaching competency model and "the test of young teachers teaching competency in college" prepared to help people analyze the competency of outstanding young teachers in university and a threshold competency of a young teachers should be achieved in many degrees.Final analysis and conclusions are as follows:The constructed teaching competency model of youth teacher in college include the traits of the outstanding young teachers, and the traits of all the young teachers in college. The excellent young teachers in college own some specific traits, such as teaching strategies, problem solving, analysis and judgment, innovation, specialized knowledge and skills, influence of others, self-control, flexibility, tenacity, achievement-oriented, professional research interests etc. The competency traits of all young teachers in college, however, include relationship building, communication skills, teaching philosophy, reflection and improvement, responsibility, understanding of others, care for students, confidence, openness, sense of accomplishment. This competency model can be classified into five competency bases, such as cognitive features, service features, self-concept, achievement and personal traits characteristic.This study constructed "the test of young teachers teaching competency in college", according to the competency models of youth teacher in college. This test contains27items and6sub-scales. These sub-scales is divided into personal traits (TRI), Expertise (EXP), problem solving (PS), achievement orientation (ACH), occupational preference (PP), and understanding of others (UO),which consistent with the teaching competency models of youth teacher in college. Each component of the higher score indicates a higher level of competency of youth teachers. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire archived the psychometric standard.According to the conclusions, several suggestions are proposed for young teachers’ training in college to enhance their teaching ability. And also provides a important applications in their professional development.
