In recent years,there are increasingly more people learning Chinese in South Korea with economic and cultural exchanges between China and South Korea.Domestic "Chinese fever" has gradually developed in South Korea especially since Chinese government implemented a strategy of international promotion of Chinese.Chinese education system has covered the entire country. Foreign language high schools with unique features of foreign language teaching in South Korea have promoted Chinese teaching to a very important position. Their Chinese language teaching also shows the unique charm and vitality. To reveal the status and characteristics of Chinese language teaching of foreign language high schools in South Korea, I take advantage of the conveniences of one-year teaching in Dongducheon Foreign Language High School in South Korea and the investigation resources from forefront of teaching. Chinese-teaching situation in Eight foreign language high schools in South Korea is surveyed and researched. The current advantages and problems of Chinese teaching in foreign language high schools are analyzed. The suggestions to improve Chinese teaching are proposed with my own teaching practice.In the Introduction, the research background, research significance, research value, and the status of research related to this topic of the paper are introduced.Chapter I determines the scope of survey of this topic. Chinese learners and Chinese teachers in eight foreign language high schools in different regions of South Korea are established as the respondents. Specific method of survey and questionnaire are designed.Chapter Ⅱ gets the statistics of various data information of the questionnaire and interviews. The survey results are analyzed from such several aspects as Chinese courses orientation, content of courses, the status of teachers, the status of students and teaching modes. The basic situation of Chinese teaching of foreign language high schools in South Korea is clarified.Chapter Ⅲ reveals the characteristics and advantages of Chinese teaching of foreign language high schools in South Korea through the contrastive analysis of such aspects as curricula, teaching objects, faculties, the use of teaching materials between foreign language high schools and general high schools in South Korea. Teaching modes, performance assessment and Chinese language activities of foreign language high schools are important factors of their success in Chinese teaching. They are also valuable experience worth vigorous promotion.Chapter IV points out the problems in the curricula, status of subjects, proficiency of students and faculties of Chinese teaching of foreign language high schools in South Korea, based upon the survey and analysis above. Corresponding improvement recommendations for different issues are proposed. For example, an effective connection between academic years is ensured, through the improvement of the curriculum system and the selection of a series of textbooks; by adjusting contents and methods of courses, constant stimulation of students’ enthusiasm in learning Chinese is ensured; through scientific class grouping, targeted teaching is developed; the continuity of Chinese language teaching is ensured, by extending the term of office of the Chinese language teachers of China.
