The weak consciousness in training students’ autonomous learning and improper self-management strategies in teaching are the reasons of low English learning interest, low participation in class and the unsatisfactory scores of high-grade students of primary school in English. Domestic comprehensive study of students in primary school on autonomous learning and self-management is just beginning, for the students of high-grade, the system study of English autonomous learning and self-management ability training strategy is a virgin land hasn’t been exploited. The ministry of education promulgated the "English curriculum standard"(2011 edition) put forward explicitly in the fourth part of the implementation suggestion that teachers should cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability. Based on these, this study puts forward to the elementary school higher grades students in studying English autonomous learning and self-management abilities.This topic through the test of students in a primary school, Wuzhong District, Suzhou City, which investigates the current situation on English autonomous learning and self-management abilities of development level, and found that the levels of students in the four parts of English autonomous learning, like contents, methods, environments and results are low. A combination of autonomous learning and self-management abilities’ theoretical knowledge and the characteristics of the high-grades students’ in English learning, the author uses an action research method, choose students of Grade Five as subjects, build up students’ English autonomous learning and self-management abilities’ training strategies gradually. Specific teaching strategies include: Arouse the enthusiasm of students learning, cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability; enable students to master certain learning strategies, improve the comprehensive ability of teacher’s teaching and optimizing students the way of learning English; guide the rational use of learning resources and achieve the self-management of learning English.Classroom observation, interview data before and after analysis and comparison of the results showed that the teaching strategies used in the study of English autonomous learning and self-management are effective, the teaching strategies in autonomous learning and self-management can gradually increase the high-grade students’ consciousness and the ability of autonomous learning and self-management in English, the development of the high-grades students in primary school about autonomous learning and self-management abilities can improve the performance of their class, enrich their learning achievements, and gradually improve their English grades.
