The focus of the curriculum reform is to change the tendency of traditional language teaching, which is focused on the results and ignored the process. The purpose is to convert the traditional teacher-centered form into student-centered form to improve students’ practical abilities and cultivate students’ innovative consciousness. In this thesis, the author explores the research of effectiveness and practicality of dialogic reading teaching so as to improve senior high school English reading teaching and improve students’ reading comprehension. Compared with the traditional reading teaching, dialogic reading teaching helps improve students’ learning enthusiasm and initiative, making students involve fully in classroom teaching, and obtaining a good teaching effect. Dialogic teaching emphasizes the equality between teachers, students, the text and the author. A democratic, mutual respective conversation will be seen as a dynamic process. With the joint effort and mutual cooperation, teachers and students will consult the dialogues together and it is helpful to form a harmonious and democratic teaching atmosphere. Finally, it is likely to improve the effect of English reading teaching.In modern times, human beings had been entering the era of dialogue. The appearance of dialogic teaching means that a new strength was introduced into the education reform. Bakhtin’s dialogue theory and Paulo Freire’s dialogue education philosophy have laid a solid foundation for later research. In the contemporary world, experts and scholars have studied dialogic teaching from various aspects. They hold that the main communicative form is dialogue, which can get the real communication and information exchange.On the basis of the basic theory of dialogue type of teaching, the paper analyzed the disadvantages of the traditional reading teaching method in China, and discusses how to use dialogue type teaching method in English reading teaching in high school in light of the New Curriculum Reform. The two classes in Kaifeng are taught with the traditional teaching method and dialogue type teaching method in English reading classes respectively, the experiment starts from September 2014 to the end of February 2015. Then the experimental results are analyzed. The experimental results show that the reading ability of the experimental group, compared with control group, improves faster. Also, students’ interest in learning has been improved greatly. Therefore, it proves that the dialogic teaching method can stimulate the students’ learning interest and improve English reading ability. Also, dialogic teaching in English reading class can be used effectively. At the same time, in the process of practice, the author also finds some issues to be addressed. What’s more, dialogic teaching has to be further improved.Finally, the author puts forward some enlightenment and suggestions for the specific implementation of dialogic reading teaching. It is hoped that the middle school English teachers can get some help from this English reading teaching, so as to substantially improve high school English reading teaching in general.
