Study needs are not only the starting point for students to learn, but also the foundation for motivating students to learn, and the fundamental driving force to stimulate students to participating in a variety of learning activities. Therefore,to conduct further research on the characteristics of the study needs of information technology courses in junior high school and explore the reasons for study needs in the process of learning is of great benefit. It is beneficial not only to the all-round improvement of classroom teaching quality and the comprehensive and harmonious development of students, but also to the transformation traditional teaching ideas and the reform of the teaching methods, so as to further promote and facilitate the in-depth development of the basic education curriculum and teaching reform, and to implement and practice the new educational ideas in real earnest.The purpose of the research is to investigate the specific content, characteristics and reasons for formation of these characteristics of students study needs of information technology courses in rural and township junior high school( taking S Junior High School in Miluo, Hunan, for example), to push students to study in of information technology courses, thereby to increase the teaching quality of this course in rural junior high school.Through field survey, the writer has a knowledge of the current situation of the information technology courses in S Junior High School. Based on the relevant theories of study needs and according to the curriculum standards of information technology courses proposed by Nanjing Normal University, the paper discusses the students’ learning expectations of information technology courses from the dimension of school, students, parents in S Junior High School, combining the curriculum standards from information technology tutorials of Hunan Province. The writer analyses the gap between students’ learning expectations and learning situation of the information technology courses, and comes to a conclusion on the specific content of students’ study needs of this course in S Junior High School.The writer conducts a questionnaire survey on students’ study needs of the information technology courses based on the design of specific content of study needs about this course, analyses the characteristics of students’ study needs of this course and the reasons for formation of these characteristics. All of these will provide reference for advancing the development of the information technology courses and improving the learning effect of this course in S Junior High School.
