Research On The Cultivation Of College Counse Lors’ Vocational Competency

As the important part of the group in college students’ education, administration and service, college counselors’ vocational competence directly affect students’ development. However, thanks to the change of students’ physical and mental quality, personalized needs and complicated growing-up environment, college counselors’ vocational competence is faced with many new requirements. It’s difficult to meet all these challenges. For solving this problem, the author carries out an empirical research, understands the deficiency of college counselors’ vocational competence and cultivation, and then offers effective proposal in order to promote their competence.This study is on the connotation of college counselors’ vocational competence and the necessity of competence cultivation. Based on the human psychological development theory, vocational competence theory and college counselors’ professional theory, applying the viewpoints of system the study analyses the main factors influencing college counselors’ vocational competence and cultivation, then using a self-complied questionnaire conducts an investigation on the college counselors in S university. The questionnaire is divided into three parts: the first part for college counselors’ basic information, mainly includes their gender, age, classification, education level, major, identity, professional title, post and service life. The second part is the vocational competence and cultivation questionnaire, totally 45 questions, covering the professional competence, the key competence, self-cultivation and cultivation by college. The third part sets up two open questions: "How about college counselors’ vocational competence? Do you have any suggestions for how to improve college counselors’ vocational competence?" Through statistic analysis by SPSS18.0, it shows that: The whole college counselors’ vocational competence is good so that they are competent for the job; besides there are few deficiencies in vocational competences, especially the investigative ability and innovation capability; finally the measures for vocational competence’s cultivation are reasonable. Comparing with colleges’ measures, college counselors are much more satisfied with self-cultivation. Via statistic analysis text analysis and interview survey, the author finds the major factors for the results of S university’s cultivation are college counselors’ strong occupational emotion, fully understanding the necessity of vocational competence’s promotion, active occupational reflection, reasonable cultivation rules and regulations, complete cultivation system and differentiated cultivation project.Research shows that only set up the sustainable cultivation philosophy, standardize the implementation of rules and regulations, strengthen the construction of mechanism, improve the deficiencies and enhance the self-development, the promotion of college counselors’ vocational competence will be more effectively.
