As the promulgation of Opinions on deepening reform of exam-based enrollment system by the State Council, China initiates its new round of exam-based enrollment reform. Deeply rooted in the fundamental views of the Marxism and by keeping up with the features of the times, the teaching reform of the course of ideology and politics in senior high school, from the concepts of education to the system, structure, content of curriculum, shows a robust trend of continuous improvement and development. To implement the reform in specific teaching requires teachers’ continually exploiting teaching resources and utilizing the teaching materials in a scientific way.Teaching material also known as teaching subject, which carries the content teaching, generally being presented in the form of textbook, teaching reference material, teaching model, audio and video materials and multimedia. Selecting and using the teaching material is an integrant part of teaching. In ideology and politics course of China’s senior high school, teaching material serves as the basic elements of instructional design and is selected by teachers in line with the textbook, teaching atmosphere and individual features of students to achieve the effectiveness of teaching. The teaching material can be classified in various forms such as text, graphics, images, animation, video and audio. Meanwhile, teaching materials have different classification by different researchers. From the perspective of teaching theory, the feasibility of applying teaching material in real-life teaching activities application has its feasibility find its basis in knowledge-organized and situational cognitive knowledge-based teaching theories.In the thesis, the author takes Life and Philosophy as an excerpt from the textbook which was taught in the ideology and politics course of China’s senior high schools. The teaching targets of this excerpt are to make the students understand the fundamental ideas and methods of dialectical materialism and historical materialism by guiding students in conducting inquiry learning and social practices, master and employ the basic viewpoints and methods of Marxism to observe and analyze problems so as to enable the students the right attitudes and abilities of independence, self-reliance and self-improvement by which they can make correct judgments on value and behavior in their daily lives.Specifically speaking, the philosophical materials in Life and Philosophy are mainly chosen from remarks of prestigious thinkers, philosophical allusions, masterpieces o famous writers, major political, economic, cultural and social events both home and abroad and analyze the problems existed in the material application in course teaching, including one-sided and incomplete interpretation of ideas put forward by ancient Chinese philosopher, which lacks the background, lacking of organic integration of ideas and opinions of a philosopher and lacking of deep manufacturing of historical teaching materials. Based on the above-mentioned three problems, the thesis tries to find root causes which result in the problems from the perspective of teacher, teaching material and method as well as the utilization of teaching resources and then proposes corresponding strategies to improve the quality and effectiveness of teaching in ideology and politics course of domestic senior high schools by precisely selecting, underlining as well as enhancing the diversity of teaching material and developing local-oriented and life-targeted teaching material. At last the thesis summarizes its ideas and gives future prospect. The author hopes that through her own study and research, the thesis can arouse more thinking on ideology and politics course teaching in China’s senior high school and make contributions to the development of related teaching theories and practices.
