In recent years, along with the development of information technology more and more people are tempted to choose this media to gain information and knowledge, as well as to express themselves through it. The human society has entered the Internet age which with the characteristics of information sharing and emotion communicating. In this era, knowledge updates quickly, information expands rapidly, and private behavior gets the chance to be socialized. It makes for a vibrant outlook throughout the country.However it also poses some serious challenges to social governance.Emergency events, as a main field of social governance, are able to produce enormous amounts of power under the support of Internet. Sometimes this power has made constructive contribution to a better world, such as social thoughts evolution and civic participation expansion; but more often, this power disrupt public order and incite the masses to create more difficulties in controlling emergency events.Colleges and universities are also faced with these problems aroused by emergency events combing with Internet. And as a gathering place for young people, it accepts and utilizes the Internet better. Besides, these young people are in the stage of formative years, they are more easy to be influenced by the Internet, which makes colleges and universities encounter more challenges. So it is inevitable to improve the theories and strategies of handling emergency events for colleges and universities in this Internet era.That is why this paper tries to explore this problem therotically.This paper researches the problem of how colleges and universities deal with emergency events in the Internet age based on the theories of organization roles and life cycles in crisis situation. And it establishes a brand new flame for the colleges and universities to cope with emergency events better based on the analysis of chances and challenges in Internet age, which provided a survey with reference.
