School-based curriculum, which is developed based on local characteristics, helps in improving classroom teaching and spreading folk cultures. It is important for school-based curriculum to make use of Chinese folk arts resources. Offering the folk arts course enables students to learn the local culture and feel the beauty of the local land. At the same time, it can make up for lack of teaching facilities and teaching materials, and provide good safeguards for the arts class in the rural area.At present, there is a boom all over the world in developing school-based curriculum based on the native distinctive culture and it is the same with Chinese education world. The new National Arts Curriculum Standard clearly points out that the local culture is a base for students to learn and know arts, which provides the theoretic base and systematical safeguards for curriculum development. In fact, during the National Training Program, the outstanding school-based textbooks and teaching cases have been emerging. With the above-mentioned background and the reference to other good resources, this paper is aimed at introducing Boli farmer paintings, the age-old traditional folk painting in my hometown, into arts class teaching and school-based curriculum development,Boli farmer paintings are wonderful local arts sources of Huai’an City. The paintings are rich in content and emotion, their colors are subjective and strong, and their style is in an exaggerate way. And some of them are even combined with paper-cutting, embroidery and indigo-blue printed fabric, which are full of local taste. When the school-based arts course is designed in Boli, it will enrich arts teaching, bring students closer to the local land, allow teachers to upgrade their teaching skills, and carry forward the spirit “love my hometown, love my homeland” while promoting the Chinese culture. The study consists of analyzing and refining the factors in the paintings that are suitable for teaching by collecting and reading the resources related to Boli farmer paintings; designing teaching contents with four teaching ways: model-expression,design-application, integration-exploration, appreciation-commentary; organizing the teaching in various ways, such as leading students to visit the farmer painting yard, or inviting the farmer artists to give lectures on their design and painting methods, or getting students to touch the countryside, experience the farmers’ life, and feel the charm of Boli farmer paintings so that they have deeper experiences of the paintings, and feel the beauty of life and the local land. The study fills up the blank of developing school-based arts curriculum related to Boli farmer painting and it is of direct significance to my upcoming work. I do hope that this paper can provide reference for arts teachers of Boli and raise more concerns about Boli farmer paintings.
