With the higher education is now developing rapidly, the strengthening of ideological and political education, innovation and educational content, and the methods have been paid more and more attention. The college counselors are the backbones of the ideological and political education who has the dual identity of teachers and cadres, the performance of their work is directly related to the counselor training quality talent level. Colleges and universities have a positive role in promoting the performance appraisal and the performance appraisal has been an important part of promoting the university personnel system reform as well as helping the staff improve work efficiency,etc. However, due to the traditional concept of scientific assessment of the impact and the lack of experience and methods. There are still many problems in college counselors work especially on performance appraisal. The study of Counselors` work performance appraisal system can greatly influence the human resource development of colleges and universities and provide a useful reference for the management and selection of counselors.Using the methods of literature research, Case study and empirical approach, this paper firstly expounds the concepts of college counselors, performance appraisal, etc, and then introduces the basic theories of performance management and the mainly used methods; later, through interviewing the relevant staff and collects the files, this paper gives a brief introduction of the counselors work evaluation system in South China University of Technology, including the counselors overview, the main content of the evaluation system and its achievements. Further more, by conducting a questionnaire survey, this paper explores the existence questions and the reasons of questions in the counselors work performance evaluation system. Then, through the introduction of three other colleges’ experience of counselors work performance appraisal in Guangdong province, the paper profiles out some enlightenment. Finally from the perspectives of the evaluation concept, index system, evaluation procedure and results using, this paper explains how to optimize the counselors work performance evaluation system in South China University of Technology.This paper is of certain reference value in pushing forward the reserch and practice of South China University of Technology human resources management and the college counselor performance management research and development in Guangdong province.
