Classroom teaching is always occupying a leading position in students’ learning.Therefore, improving the efficiency of classroom teaching can significantly improve students’ achievement. However, today in high school, because of much teaching content in one class,the lecture method dominates in classroom teaching, resulting in many bad effects. For one thing, not all students actively take part in English learning, which is difficult to improve their learning enthusiasm. For another, students are in a passive state. As a result, the efficiency of learning and their English study are difficult to improve. Under the new curriculum reform,discussion teaching method updates the conventional teaching concepts, changes the former teaching models and highlights students’ predominant status. At the same time, this teaching method not only reflects the core function of teachers but also improves students’ comprehensive learning ability. We can see it is an effective teaching method. Therefore, in this paper, the author mainly discusses the discussion teaching method applied in high school English classroom teaching and aims to solve the following questions:1) How to apply the discussion teaching method in senior high English class?2) Can students’ English learning interest, attitude and the ability of English expression be improved by using discussion teaching method?3) Can students’ English grades be improved by using discussion teaching method?Firstly, the author analyzed the related theories of discussion teaching method, including its concept, its theoretical basis, its researches at home and abroad and its practical significance of applying it in senior high English class. Secondly, the author selected one hundred and eight students from Yong An No 1 Middle School as the object of the questionnaire survey and analyzed the results to prove that students’ English learning interest,attitude and the ability of English expression could be improved by using Discussion Teaching Method. Lastly, the paper systematically carried out the empirical research ofdiscussion teaching method in English class and analyzed the data from the experiment results to test that students’ English grades could be improved by using discussion teaching method.From the research, the author draws the conclusion that students’ English learning interest and attitude, the ability of English expression and English grades can be improved efficiently through using discussion teaching method.
